Another beloved Google invention on an innovation spree: Android

What was developed by the Google Inc as a supporting OS for mobile and cellular technology is now being developed as a receptor for digital television signals. Yes, Android operating system will become as multifaceted as its founders are. And the initiative to develop set-top boxes and netbooks using Android was taken up by MIPS and the 'firsts' of each kind will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, later this week.

What is it that makes Android so innovable and beloved of technology and research giants? Simple...it's based on Linux, which means it is open source and no copyright issues will even arise over its third party use as Google only developed it to use in mobile technology.

MIPS seeks to enable High Definition and multichannel content to be displayed on a flat panel and for this it joined hands with Western Mediabridge and Sigma Designs to innovate and adapt the Android for the visioned use. MIPS already boasts of some lucrative technology devices based on Android in its equipage among which there is the Yeelooon8089 netbook (obviously based on Android) and a prototype of Android set-top box designed by KDDI R&D Labs of Japan.

It will showcase both of these at the Electronics Consumer Show later this week. And id things go as planned; we will soon have set top boxes with Android as the OS support system. Wonder, what the world would have been without Google!!
