Dream of Digital Britain

The government has dreamt of every house to be digital by the end of 2012.But the BT has cautioned the govt. against regularizing the rule as it can cease the government and take it to the court. The govt. wants to launch the universal broadband which has access of at least 2MB a second before the London Olympics. But there are hindrances in the plan as the airwaves have to reach every rural area effectively where they are not too strong.

Lord Mandelson has received a letter from BT, raising serious objection and threatening judicial review. According to them undue advantages like subsidies for which their 3G licenses are extended. They want the govt. to be more logical in its decision.

BT spokesperson has confirmed that it has some major reservations. It has represented a gift of billion pounds from the taxpayers, which is a barrier to the innovative mobile market. They want it to be auctioned in a way that proves a fair deal for all the existing and the future prospects. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has been thinking on Meek’s plans for which the deadline is already extended upto 5th February.

The executives of the industry are also rethinking at the opposition to the new spectrum regime. According to them, think the company itself will be benefited, which will be a matter of hot discussion in the next year’s finance bill. The tax will be raised upto £175m a year. It will help to clear the pay-rolls of the future generation broadband users.

The existing fight is of the pension receivers of the fixed line connections. It depends on the future prospects will affect the masses.
