Digital switchover stands interrupted in Italy due to the upcoming Football World Cup

Many countries of the world are finally taking the plunge and are opting for a switchover from analogue to digital transmission of television content, nationally as well as internationally. Italy is among the many nations who embarked on this venture rather zealously with only Northern Italy remaining analogue.

The Northern Italy was very much on its way to the switchover, more so because it wanted to do it before the commencement of the Football World Cup so as to enable the national viewers to enjoy watching it in a high-definition mode. But due to some bottlenecks and other discrepancy, the nationwide viewers and football lovers will after all not be able to enjoy the high definition version of these matches. The switchover was due in June, but due to regional elections and the short-term disruption of TV services, which is an unavoidable part of switchover, it will take place after the Football World Cup will be concluded.

This news also means that the boost in the sales of high definition televisions which the electronics retailers were so looking forward to on account of switchover as well as upcoming World Cup, will be dimmed because of this postponement. Let's see what the authorities do next. They surely can't postpone the regional term elections and can't afford to disrupt television services while the World Cup is on. The only option that remains is postponement of the digital switch over…but as they say…"Better late than never"!!!
